Program Note:
violet sun takes its name from an optical illusion which causes the sun’s color to appear inverted after watching it for a long time. I first experienced this during a particularly powerful sunrise over Hartford in October 2020. Sunrises and other natural cycles serve as a reminder that, despite the chaos of life, time continues and certain things never change.
Premiere Information:
violet sun was premiered by Robert Black on May 1, 2021 as a part of The Uncertainty of Fate festival under the artistic direction of Rita Porfiris.
