Seventeen Things
piano, horn, saxophone, double bass, narrator - 8 min.
Program Note:

Seventeen Things is based on the poem by the same name by N.J. Collay. The poem inspired me as soon as I read it. The poem details the seventeen things the author believes all queer people should know by the time they are seventeen. It examines queer history in a way that connected with me as a queer teenager. The piece uses a post-minimalist aesthetic to emphasize the content of the words, which I adapted into a shorter form for the piece
premiere information:

Seventeen Things was premiered by Joseph Hayes, Tobias Haus, Leo Harrison, Joseph David Spence, and Isaac Gadikan in May 2019 at The Hartt School
