hotels in the city is an exploration of the everyday and mundane. First conceived after a trip to Boston, MA, the piece uses a repeated mantra as the majority of the text. The rest of the text is made up of memories found in the city, with an emphasis on the contrast between natural elements and manmade ones. Musically, the piece references early counterpoint, but is interspersed with modern techniques and harmony, including some microtonal passages. The piece is also an exploration of memory, and how we process times in our lives we can never relive.
